HERE IS A LINK to the SL ORIENTATION ISLAND WIKI. The Orientation
Island tutorial is a short experience [30-45 minutes] that will familiarize
you with walking, changing your avatar's appearance, chatting, using your
mouse to zoom in and move the camera left and right and up and down as
well as using mouselook. You also use CTRL left mouse key to move, lift
and place a ball on to a table. Once you complete the initial orientation
you will be transported into a public area. Second LIfe : Second LIfe application is already loaded onto lab computers. There should be a blue/green SL hand icon on your desktop. Double-click it to open Second Life. If it is not already loaded on to your computer you can download it here. Here is a good First Sign On and Orientation Island video from the Technology Training Center at SUNY Scotland
If you want to practice the things you did on Orientation Island after you leave, you can click on the SEARCH button at the bottom of the screen and select the PLACES tab and type in “Orientation” and you will see “Orientation Public.” This is a public copy of Orientation Island . You can go there as many times as you like to practice. |
ASSIGNMENT [for an actual class] Submit your real name and your avatar name to the first Second Life assignment box. I will use this information to send you an invitation to joining the Second Life Fashion CAD group. |
