2007 Student Research and Creativity Celebration Presentation

Myriad Mosaic/Second Life @ BSC: Buidling Knowledge; Developing Ideas, Information, and Products Class Project: FTT 590 Design Research (Independent study)

Abstract: Creativity has been documented as a necessary asset to effective learning and collaboration. Hence my project examines the questions; in what ways might creative thinking tools, processes, and principles be applied in virtual learning and working environments? What are the features that allow it to facilitate such creative learning/working, standing head and shoulders above other technological learning tools?

Given the prevalence and the pitfalls of distance/virtual learning, work, and collaboration since the explosive growth of the internet, Second Life has emerged as a natural extension of this trend. Through my observations and conclusions based on literature review, experiential learning, exploration, and experimentation, I hope to establish the link between creative learning/working and this particular virtual environment.

By illustrating the potential relevance of learning that takes place within this space (via info sharing, collaboration, and product development) I hope to provide the BSC community with beginning templates that communicate the essence of what excellent educators strive for and competitive businesses operate by.
