Goals Of The Fashion CAD Virtual Fashion Designer Project

Goals for Introducing 3D Virtual design to Fashion CAD class in Spring 2007

The goals of this virtual fashion project are to:

  1. Familiarize fashion students with working and collaborating on a project in a 3D virtual reality setting.
  2. Have students begin to research the business aspects of virtual fashion design by exploring existing virtual fashion establishments.
  3. Teach fashion students how to prepare their existing surface designs for SL.
  4. Introduce various techniques of developing fashion garments for and in a 3D virtual environment.
  5. Develop presentation skills by setting up and taking “snapshot to disk” fashion pose images of the avatar, editing it in Photoshop® and uploading images back to SL to use in developing product presentation packages for fashion outfits.
  6. Develop an integrated collection of fashion garments in SL.
  7. Organize all garment styles into separate folders to contain brand name, style number and item description.
  8. Open all permissions on individual garment item files so that they can be copy/modify for others.
  9. Customize and set-up a vendor exhibit in SL that will illustrate and contain the fashion collection for anyone to buy for $0L
  10. Explore how to develop and present a more complex garment collection in Virtual Fashion PRO®.
  11. Participate collaboratively in fashion show presentation in SL and participate in development of video clips.
  12. Contribute to development of a Web presentation that will be shared campus-wide that will document the process experienced with this SL project so others can use is as a prototype for their virtual exploration.
